Seamwork Magazine - Osaka (and Part 4 of the Colette Laurel saga)

How is it nearly the end of April already???

Back in January I set myself 10 challenges - I thought I had nailed the woven top thing with Colette Laurel but after my previous post and the pictures at the end of this post I don't think I have - which makes me sad!

BUT I may have completed a different one - a wearable skirt!

I used the lovely black wool crepe I bought at Goldhawk road and lined with my elephant fabric from thailand. I decided not to colour block which has made this seem a lot more formal than I wanted to be fair but I still LOVE it!

I cut a size 22 as I don't like things sitting on my waist, much prefer lower and on my hips and it seemed rather short had it laid any higher.

So my pictures are not mirror selfies (woo) but I forgot to move all the wires and some pictures the BF took had an unmade bed in view and wires all over (forgot to move them!) I also have a wee bit of panda eyes - long days in the lab are catching up with me!! Here are some more pics

Very wearable skirt indeed!

This skirt sat nearly finished for about 5 weeks (maybe more) but I was so scared of doing the button holes as I loved it even without them...but I bit the bullet and went for it!

Buttons were taken off of an old coat years ago!

The seams are not quiet perfect but will definitely do!

Cute lining

This skirt is intended to be reversible but it isn't, I figured I didn't want to wear a elephant skirt but I love the lining, I also tried to be as economical with the lining fabric (would like to use leftovers for something else) as possible so no pattern matching but I am all ok with that!

I am not going to say that my 'Wearable Skirt Challenge' is complete (learned my lesson from the Colette saga) but I have half cut a denim version already.

URGH!!!!

I am not going to say much to be honest, here are some pics. The top fits unlike Part 3 but I just don't like it. It feels very corporate when on - I work in a lab with my lab coat on, jeans and trainers so have zero call for corporate wear and I think it is really unflattering and I look huge. Plus the back is a hot mess. I am putting this as a fail and a general fabric fail.

Urgh

I still have 3 Colettes cut, but I am total bogged down by them and feel totally downtrodden. I will maybe just pick them up inbetween other projects but I think I need to look at a different pattern to try make myself feel a bit better! Need my sew-jo back!

I am away on a little holiday next week - yay - Benidorm (classy) here I come!

Colette Laurel Top - Part 3

Hi,

This is not a positive post so if you are feeling the Tuesday blues just 'Mark as Read' and move on!

This is actually my 3rd Colette Laurel and the second from my epic cutting session of tops but this version has broken me!!! It has taken away my sewing mojo and I am NOT HAPPY!

So here it is:

Looks ok eh? Well look what happens if I lift my elbows any higher than this picture:

It was so tight over my bust and arms. I have no idea why!!! I have made up another of the tops from the epic cutting and it fits fine! (Will be blogged at some point!)

So I didn't want to waste this amazing fabric (it sewed up a dream!) so I decided to unpick the side seams and under arms and insert a panel strip each side basically like this tutorial on Pinterest. This was a last ditch attempt at not losing this fabric!

Hello Mr Tent Top!

Not only is it huge from the bust down - it still does this when I move my arms:

That's the end of the bad pictures I promise.

I am not sure if this is the type of fabric - it is no where near as drapey as viscose? Anyone else any ideas? I thought I had not cut on the grain but I double checked and I have.

This top is currently sat in the naughty corner and I am really upset!

I am thinking of removing the sleeves and seeing if that makes a difference, then taking it in on the panels from the bust down. I love this fabric and there isn't enough left to salvage anything from it!

The Foldline Walthamstow Fabric Shopping Meet Up

Hello!

How is everyone! I have been having a bit of a nightmare sewing up my colette Laurels - I will update you when I can face thinking about it again - but for now - urgh

Anyway, I am organising a fabric shopping meet up! A nice budget friendly trip to walthamstow!

It is on the 30th April at 11am meeting outside of The Textile Centre.
