To Do List 22

Hello!

It is nearly Christmas!!! Yayyyyy!

I am more looking forward to having 11.5 days off of work to be honest!

I had a very productive weekend after cancelling all my plans, I was tired and grumpy and REALLY suffering with heartburn (really should keep away from Christmas nibbles!) so I retreated to my sewing table - or cutting table should I say!

Here is what I got done:

26. More bibs - I cut 12 bibs from scraps, once these are sewn I won't be needing any more for a while I don't think

Lullaby Layette Romper - whale
35. Bind neckline
36. Add sleeves
37. Bind legs
38. Add elastic
39. Sew gusset
40.  Add snappers

Lullaby Layette Romper - bee
41. Bind neckline
42. Add sleeves
43. Bind legs
44. Add elastic
45. Sew gusset
46.  Add snappers

M7038 Dungarees - Rabbits
47. Trace Pattern
48. Cut fabric

M7038 Top - Yellow
53. Trace Pattern
54. Cut fabric

This is 17 out of 57 (29.8%) BUT I then went a bit mental with cutting up new things to do:

M7038 Dugarees - Denim
M7038 Top - Teal
M7038 Top - Duck egg
A-Line dress - Pink flower
A-Line dress - rabbits
A-Line dress - rose
A-Line dress - teal

So my To Do List actually got longer:

I am still waiting on the fabrics from South Korea arriving, I am sure some of these will get bumped up the list when that happens! I have the day off exclusively set aside for sewing and Christmas movies so hopefully I can hammer through some of these as well as getting stuck in over New year during my time off.

I really do wish you all the happiest of Christmas's and all the best for the New Year!

Hope you are all as excited for 2017 as I am!

Fabric Shopping 9

Hello!

How is everyone's Thursday?

I had my scan - pic is on my Instagram if you want a nosey - everything is all fine, seeing 'normal' written over all the information is a great relief. Unfortunately Baby did not behave well and the sonographer wasn't 100% sure of gender but was 75% sure was a little girl! Very exciting and we have already started to refer to the baby as 'She' - definitely better than 'It'!

Now, since my first scan I have been very restrained, or so it has felt with the amount I want to buy. Especially fabric wise...but on prepping photos for this doesn't feel like I have been very refrained but hey ho!

So these first items were from this eBay seller; they are being posted from South Korea and not yet arrived, as soon as they have I will update this as to comment on their quality, and this seller has so many gorgeous fabrics I am hoping they are as lovely as they look so I can buy more!

All of them are 100% cotton and I bought half a metre of each. My total was £16.30 which included £5 delivery. These were bought with unisex in mind and I cannot wait to sew up a pair of rubber duck dungarees!

Along side these I have just bought some plain fabrics to try make some full outfits/use remnants up from one of my all time favourite fabric shops Oh Sew Crafty - their customer service is always brilliant and quick delivery (sometimes next day!)

Again, half a metre of each 100% cotton.

Last week I discovered the Cloth House of Soho has opened a fabric warehouse shop up on the street I work on...this is dangerous!

I bought two half a metre lengths:

A stretch denim

A thicker canvas-type cotton
The denim was £6/m and the canvas £4/m.

I then went and left them on the tube!!!!!!!! Devastated! But I have to say I went back today and replaced them as was so upset!

I have bought a dark teal cotton to go with the canvas from Oh Sew Crafty too - really hard to tell on colours on screen if it will match but I am hoping so!

While in the Cloth House I have bought some more fabrics too:

This gorgeous jersey remnant that measures 80cm x 145cm was only £2.50! I am just going to overlock the edges and sew down into a blanket, it is so soft and snuggly and seems such a shame to not utilise both sides of the fabric!

This was £4/m I think and really reminds me of the yorkshire rose, it is wide so just bought half a metre. It is a cotton but a bit thicker like the cream above - gorgeous pinafore coming up in that!

And finally another remnant 100cm x 150cm for £3! Not too sure what this is destined for yet!

Oh so very exciting!

To Do List 21

I wasn't going to do one of these this week, but I am clock watching and bored at work. Work has really slowed down on the run up to Xmas and I have my 20 week scan at 4pm; I am anxious and excited in equal measures and just want to get it over with! Anyway,...

This week has been fairly productive even though my weekend was disrupted.

I have realised if I sit on the sofa after dinner I fall asleep, then don't sleep at night, so in an effort to keep awake I have been heading to my sewing table for an hour or so and get an early night in.

The things I have done this week:

Lullaby Layette trousers:
4. Sew whales
5. Add elastic to whales

Lullaby Layette Shirt (seahorse)
42. Sew placket
43. Sew shoulders
44. Bind neckline
45. Add sleeves
46. Hem
47. Add snappers

Lullaby Layette Romper (whale)
48. Sew placket
49. Sew shoulders

Lullaby Layette Romper (fox)
56. Sew placket
57. Sew shoulders
58. Bind neckline
59. Add sleeves
60. Bind legs
61. Add elastic
62. Sew gusset
63. Add snappers

Lullaby Layette Romper (Bee)
64. Sew placket
65. Sew shoulders

20 out of 68 (27.4%) isn't that bad!!!

I am planning some sewing time going ahead too, I have managed to gain an extra day off of work at home before Christmas (yayyy) and I am back in London 28th December so actually get 5 days off at home which I am very happy about!

So here is my sewing plan...

I have a feeling this will grow as of this afternoon when I find out my babies gender!

Exciting times!

Enjoy your Christmas run up and if I do not get back on here before the big day, Merry Christmas to you all!
Thanks for reading as usual!

  • Overlock seahorse shirt

Overall I managed to get 23 out of 48 done - 23% - and a bit more!

Here is this weeks to do list;

I have really broken down some of these tasks as know I don't have much time now so I may not get much done but can try doing a little bit at a time when I can squeeze it in - something I really should try to get used to doing I think!

Have a great week :)

To Do List 19

Hello!

So, I got some stuff done this weekend! Not the important bits but still, I enjoyed myself and was very much needed!

Here is what I got finished:

Lullaby Layette Trousers
7..       Recut whale fabric
8.       Overlock whales
9.       Overlock stars
10.    Sew chambray
11.  Sew stars
13.       Add elastic to chambray
14.       Add elastic to whales
15.       Add elastic to stars
16.   Photograph
17.   Blog

42.       Bibs

I have done a post on the trousers and I decided to sew some bibs up as just wanted to be on my machine - there really don't warrant their own post so here are the bibs I made:

All fabric (except the yellow elephants) is from Oh Sew Crafty - I would highly recommend, I ordered this polycotton Friday afternoon and arrived Saturday morning - awesome customer service and my go to fabric shop for polycottons, their range is amazing!

I drew my own pattern using this tutorial and kept the pattern so don't need to do it again!

I also used my new snap fastener - so much easier than sewing on press studs!

My best friends little boy donated a bear to the baby (very cute of him) so here he is modelling for us!

Anyway, that is 8 bibs made, only about another 4 million needed I think!

11/44 last week - 25%  not too shabby!!!

Now, back to this weeks To-Do List

Oliver+S Lullaby Layette Pants

Hello!

Here is my first bit of baby sewing!

I have been trying my best to hold off of buying anything or making too much as kind of wanted to wait until my 20 week scan to double check everything is ok! But I had bought the Oliver+S Lullaby Layette pattern virtually straight after m 12 week scan and I was itching to get started.

I thought I would do a practise version, just to see if I liked it and to mainly have a good try on my new overlocker (a lovely Singer from Lidl that my gorgeous OH bought my as a birthday present).

I was impressed with the first pair

Sorry about how dark this photo is...
My OH did say they reminded him of a little suit - didn't feel very unisex!

So I set about some more and then a busy few weekends have meant they have lurked about doing nothing for a few weeks.

Then on Friday we got to hear the babies heart beat and this reassured me everything was going well, so I was eager to get sewing!

I had cut 3 pairs. I had cut one piece of one pair upside down which meant recutting - unfortunately I did not think this part through...

Two right legs...AAARGH! Anyway, I have ordered some more whale fabric (any excuse!) (some contrasting fabric may have slipped into my basket...)

But the other two pair sewed up lovely...

'Chambray' polycotton

Teeny tiny stars 100% cotton

Seriously, these things are too cute! They came together really quickly and totally lovely, and unisex! Win!

As soon as more whales arrive I will finish the next pair!

I have also nearly finished the romper, and I am not going to lie, it is love at first sight! I am so excited for this baby, and making handmade clothes just makes me more excited! Would highly recommend this pattern, it makes lovely gifts.

To Do List 18

Hello!

It has been a while! I do apologise, I have been incredibly tired and sewing has been low down on my list - other than that I am all good! My bump is steadily growing and I have done some little bits but it is so hard to sew for a baby when don't know the sex! Less than 3 weeks until we find out, cannot wait to see our little peanut, just got fingers crossed everything is ok! Pregnancy really has brought out my anxiety so trying to keep myself busy to keep it at bay!

It was my birthday last week and I had some very low key celebrations in Newcastle with some good friends - must have been the first birthday I have not celebrated with any alcohol since I was about 16! Naughty Kristy. Anyway was good fun and I love Newcastle wayyy too much and makes me sad I am not living there every time I leave.

Anyway, back to sewing!

Baby Sewing Plans

So, I have decided I don't want to sew any maternity stuff for myself so there will be a lack of adult clothes making for a while - I hope I don't lose any followers but I totally understand if you don't want to read about baby stuff! I do hope I don't come across as one of these Mumsy types that can only talk about babies either...there must be a balance somewhere??? Right now, I am excited and will chat a bit so advance apologies!

Since finding out my news a few weeks ago I have been daydreaming about all the amazing things I can sew myself! I love handmade gifts for kids, so I want a lot of handmade stuff for my own!

I cannot stop looking for patterns for some inspiration for unisex stuff, we want to find out what we are having but want to make a start on things!

I *may* have already bought some patterns though....

How cute??? And unisex! I haven't tried any yet but I am dying to get my hands on them! The top two will be good to use my new overlocker!

I already own quite a few kids sewing patterns as I have 6 nieces/nephews so hopefully these will come in handy - there are links to the Etsy shops on these ones underneath

Brindille and Twig Etsy Shop

I have not actually sewn this one so cannot recommend yet but will let you know when I can!

I am Petite Boutique
I have sewn these and loved doing it!

Tie Die Diva Etsy Shop
Can certainly review this - super quick, super neat and a lovely dress. Obviously this isn't unisex but I really wanted to pass this on - I highly recommend!

My love of Pinterest is going into overdrive and definitely seen some freeby patterns i want to have a go at!

This one looks a good scrap buster!

I have already ordered some bells and squeezy noise things for these - which I am sure I will regret!

OK, I think I have bored you enough...follow my Pinterest board for more!

A little something I have been making...

Hello!

Posts have been few and far between I am afraid, I tried making some things and were just getting too frustrated that nothing was fitting etc. Well, it has been explained...

This little peanut surprised us at 10 weeks by making his/her presence known and after getting over the initial shock we are super excited!

Everything at my scan was confirmed as all ok and I am due 1st May!

Exciting times! And Scary!

All that sewing to do...I cannot stop looking at patterns and fabrics, hoping to make a dint in my new 'To Do List' this weekend!

Fabric Shopping 8

So, the fabric stash diet I promised I would go on until I had used 10 pieces of fabric didn't quite go to plan...

BUT...

I have had a good tidy up of my stash and I used so much scraps on the Springfield tops I made that I don't think I have done too bad. I also took a lot to the charity shop, to be honest they were mainly the bits I picked up at the Fabric swap that I think I panic picked up and in the light of day I just knew I wouldn't use.

A friend of mine then wanted to go to Walthamstow as she had never been, so I went - and showed a LOT of restraint!

3m @ £2/m - no idea what it is! And the colour does not photograph well, it is a khaki colour but very soft and quite thick.

TMOS had this in, I regretted not buying it the last time I went so I am glad I bought it now. 1.5m @ £2.50/m

So this has not photographed well at all. It is sooo soft and almost like brushed silk but at £1/m it can't be, can it? I got 3m!

Another TMOS buy, lovely cotton! £3.50/m and got 1.5m

Unselfish buy, this is for my mum! I want to make her at least one Cashmerette Springfield and thought she would love this fabric. Only £1/m too! Cheap Xmas present!

So after my clear out and the cuts I have already made I am now down to 15 lengths of fabric in my personal stash. I think it is manageable and I think I have a rough plan for everything in there. I am happy with the stash at the minute!
